As cofounder of The Honest Company, Jessica Alba has turned her eco-friendly values into a big business. The entrepreneur, actress, wife and mother talks about finding her calling – and how she stays balanced.

Jessica Alba says, with a comically exaggerated eye roll: I hate working out.” It’s not what you’d expect to hear from actress with one of the most enviable bodies in Hollywood, but the 33-year-old mother of two is surprisingly candid about most things. “It’s boring! I really only did it when I had a job that was physically demanding. But from age 17 until I was 27, all I did were movies that were physically demanding—so all I did was work out all the time!”

Alba clearly knows the meaning of the word discipline. Yes, she was born with a desirable genome—and the kind of naturally curvy-but-slim figure that inspires characters whose entire wardrobe consists of bikinis—but she’s worked tirelessly to make a good thing even better. The girl has earned her stripes.

“Jess is an animal,” proclaims Jennifer Johnson, founder of The JJ Dancer Technique. The choreographer, dancer and fitness trainer helped Alba get ready for her role as Nancy Callahan, a hard-living stripper with a dark past, in the upcoming Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, codirected by Robert Rodriguez and inspired by Frank Miller’s famed graphic novels. “She works like crazy. She’s still hungry to make it happen. You know that saying, ‘You have just as many hours in the day as Beyoncé’? It’s the same with Jessica. She just uses those hours better, too.’”

“After I had Honor, my first child, I worked out to get back into shape. Then I stopped. Then I got pregnant with Havie, and I worked out a bit after I had her, but then I stopped once I hit a weight that I felt fine with, because it’s just boring,” she says. “Recently, I’ve started to work out for stress. I realize that I just need to give my mind a break. When you’re being pulled in so many different directions—and I’ve done more this year than I have in the last six or seven—it’s full-on. If you don’t get rid of some extra energy, you can internalize it, and it becomes so unhealthy.”

High-res magazine scans from Jessica’s August issue of British GQ Magazine have been added to the gallery. Take a look and read the interview below!

Summer just gor a little bit better, The siren of Sin City is back for the sequel and she’s sexier than ever (her words, not ours). Jessica Alba tells GQ about building a business empire, losing her inhibitions and coping with an infatuated Eminem…

Some people have what Liam Gallagher memorably termed “sun-she-yine” about them. Jessica Alba is one of them. Everything about her, from her olive skin to her preternaturally youthful face and figure speaks of endless West Coast summer.

It’s not simply that she can rock a bathing suit. She glows with a can-do spirit that has seen her make a graceful transition from film star to businesswoman (her eco-friendly children’s product selling outfit, The Honest Company, now turns over $60 million annually), to motherhood (two daughters Honor and Haven) and back again to Hollywood (a starring role in next moneth’s Sin City: A Dame To Kill For) without seeming to so much as perspire.

Given that Jessica Alba and summer go together like Ambre and Solaire we thought it best that she guide us through the highs, lows, do’s and don’ts of the season. Not since Signor Botticelli asked his Aphrodite to go stand in that outsized sea shell has there been a woman better equipped to do so.

The last time you spoke to GQ you said having children had ruined your figure, but we beg to differ
I didn’t say it ruined my figure! I said my body is different. I said I’m perfectly happy with my body, even more happy now than I was then.

You’e not planning to cover up just yet then?
No, because I have to enhance what I like about my body and my stomach is good. My legs I’m not as excited about all the time, but I wouldn’t cover up my stomach. That’s what women do. Enhance what we’ve got.

Where do you stand on the big sartorial question of the summer for men. Namely board shorts of budgie smugglers? You know what we’re talking about…
Yes, I have heard that term before [laughs]. That’đ really funny. I like the board shorts, but I liek the shorter board shorts that show off the legs. They should be mid-tigh.

What should men not do fashion-wise in the summer?
Wear clothes that are too tight. Bathing suits that are too tight and small T-shirts, and I’m not a fan of studs or tattoo prints on T-shirts or trousers. I like a skinny jean, but I just think tight board shorts are weird.

That’s like the worst elements of the board short and the budgie smuggler in one package, so to speak.
Exactly!

What’s your summer drink?
Rosé with ice.

Jessica is on the cover of August issue of British GQ Magazine. This issue hits newsstands on Monday, July 7th. Check out gorgeous cover and two outtakes and read some headlines below!

On her body…
“I have to enhance what I like about my body and my stomach is good. My legs I’m not as excited about all the time, but I wouldn’t cover up my stomach. That’s what women do. Enhance what we’ve got.”

On what men should never do in the summer…
“Wear clothes that are too tight. Bathing suits that are too tight and small T-shirts, and I’m not a fan of studs or tattoo prints on T-shirts or trousers. I like a skinny jean, but I just think tight board shorts are weird.”

On her role in Sin City: A Dame To Kill For…
“There’s more of me and I do more than I did in the first one. I have a bit more of a character arc in this one. There’s more dancing, but the dancing’s really connected to the story. Nancy’s a bit of an alcoholic and a bit of a mess and she’s depressed and angry. The dances in the movie reflects where she’s at.”

On learning how to master a lassoo…
“One of the transport guys was a cowboy and he brought his to work and he showed me how to do it in a parking lot before I went on stage. It’s not terribly easy but it’s not the hardest thing in the world.”

On how she’s changed since the last Sin City film…
“I feel much more grounded, much more comfortable, much more saucy. Then I was a girl, I was timid, I was afraid, I was so insecure and now I’m a woman and it’s different… I’m more uninhibited.”

On her Into The Blue co-star Paul Walker…
“He had a real childlike innocence and he was game to try anything or do anything. He treated everyone with respect and love. He was never treating anybody differently because of who they were. He was really a guy’s guy. And loved his daughter so much and talked about her all the time. He never cared about Hollywood. He never cared about the hype.”

Jess covers special double “Summer Must List” issue of Entertainment Weekly, which seems to be the first promo for Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.

Alba returns as lasso-swinging stripper Nancy Callahan in the hyper-violent, hyper-sexy, hyper-everything sequel to 2005′s live-action comic book, co-directed once more by Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller. But this time, Alba’s character has a little more bite. “She was more naive in the first film. Ignorance was bliss,” Alba says. “In this one there’s no bliss and no ignorance. I wanted her to transition from being a victim to being someone who’s in control of her own story.”

Now a mother of two and president of the multimillion-dollar Honest Company, Alba’s outlook on her place in Hollywood as an actress and sex symbol has also changed in the years since the first Sin City. “I was such a deer in the headlights when I did the first one,” she says. “I was so green and just trying to take it all in. I have a fearlessness now that I didn’t before.” At Entertainment Weekly’s photo shoot in Malibu, she even took some time to answer some hard-hitting (and not so hard-hitting) questions.
